5 grounds every cricket fan needs to visit

Travelling the world as the England cricket team complete their international schedule has to be the top of every cricket fan's bucket list; but with a packed calendar of matches coming up for the Three Lions, which grounds need to be on your list?

1. Adelaide Oval – Australia

When England are next there: 2nd-6th December 2017.

With an Ashes Winter on the way, the only place to start is Down Under. England take on Australia in the second Ashes Test this December, and soaking in the action at a sun-baked Adelaide is as close to cricketing heaven as you'll ever get.

Plus, this year's Adelaide Test will be a landmark one. As the first Ashes Day/Night Test to ever be played, it really will turn out be one of those “I was there” moments.

2. Melbourne Cricket Ground – Australia

When England are next there: 26th-30th December 2017.

When it comes to sheer size and the exciting match day experience that comes with huge crowds, it has to be the MCG.

Holder of the record for the most fans at any cricket match (93,013 at the 2015 World Cup Final), plus the largest crowd for a single day of Test cricket (91,112 during the 2013 Ashes), the MCG has hosted some of the most watched cricket games of all time.

Officially listed as the tenth biggest stadium in the world, you can catch England taking on the Aussies in the boxing day Test in December, plus an ODI in January.

3. Hagley Oval – New Zealand

When England are next there: March – April 2018.

To New Zealand, where the Christchurch-based Hagley Oval brings an altogether different charm. Grassy banks and surrounding parks make for one of the more picturesque cricket grounds you'll ever come across.

In contrast to the daunting, fearsome stadiums you'll find elsewhere, the Hagley Oval brings tranquility and easy-going cricket viewing.

4. Pallekele Stadium, Sri Lanka

When England are next there: October – November 2018.

Speaking of cricket grounds that sit in spectacular settings, Sri Lanka's Kandy possibly trumps any other location. Pallekele sits within an official World Heritage site, allowing cricket fans to take in the green forests bordering the ground and astonishing hilly surroundings.

One of the most contrasting locations you could find from an afternoon at Lord's, England will next be in Sri Lanka in late 2018.

5. Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, West Indies

When England are next there: February - March 2019.

England make their way back to the West Indies in 2019, offering fans the opportunity to soak up the sandy beaches and carnival cricketing atmosphere of the Caribbean.

The islands of the West Indies has a number of unique cricket locations that make touring the country a must for any lover of the sport. There's the Sir Vivian Richards stadium in Antigua (shown above), the Kensington Oval in Barbados, and the recently renamed Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium (once called the Beauséjour Stadium).

The St Lucia ground features a breathtaking mountainous backdrop, making it one of the best places to watch cricket.
