How AI Can Help Your Club Write Better Match Reports

Match reports are a brilliant way to keep members, supporters and the wider community connected with your club. They bring fixtures to life, celebrate players and give people another reason to visit your club website.

The challenge is finding the time to write them.

For busy volunteers, this is where AI can be incredibly useful. Tools such as ChatGPT can turn a few match notes into a polished report in seconds, giving clubs a simple way to create more regular content without adding hours of extra work.

Start with the key details

AI works best when you give it good information. During the match, make a quick note of the final score, scorers, key moments, standout performances and anything else worth mentioning in the Club App.

You could then ask:

"Write an engaging 300 word match report for our club website using these notes. Keep the tone positive and natural, include the key moments in chronological order and finish by looking ahead to our next fixture."

The more detail you provide, the more personal the finished report will feel.

Give your report a story

The best match reports do more than list what happened. They tell the story of the game.

Brackley Town's reports provide context around the result and include comments from the manager, helping supporters understand the bigger picture around the performance.

Chinnor Rugby Club takes readers through the momentum of the match, highlighting crucial tries, turning points and the drama of a late fightback.

Boston United also publishes reports consistently, giving supporters a regular source of updates throughout the season.

Make AI your starting point

AI does not need to replace your club’s personality. Start with a clear brief to create the first draft, then spend a few minutes refining it so it sounds like your club and reflects what actually happened in the game.

The more context you give AI, the better the results will be. When creating your next report, you can even reference a previous one to help AI understand your club’s tone, style and the language you normally use.

Small details can make a big difference. Including a coach quote can help make your report feel specific to your team.

You could also mention travelling supporters, recognise milestone appearances or highlight a memorable moment from the match. These personal touches are what make a report feel genuinely connected to your club.

Ensure you use a good image to accompany the report, any high-quality images from the match are what will look the most effective.

Once you’re happy with it, publish the report on your Pitchero website and share it across your social channels.

A few notes, a strong AI prompt and five minutes of editing can turn every fixture into engaging content that your players, members and supporters will want to read.
