Membership Roles and Player Migration Update - Now Live!

Read the full preview here.

In summary:

The new feature is called Editing Roles and is found in the Membership section of the control panel.

It allows a Webmaster to select a group of members and edit their shared role in one go.

This makes it perfect for migrating players between teams at the end of a season, when players need to be moved up to a new age group e.g. Moving all U10s players to the U11s team.

You can also edit the roles of Club Members, Coaches & Team Admins. You will not need to migrate Parents, as they will move with the Player migration.

Only Webmasters with access to the Membership section can use this feature.

Player Migration vs Rename the team

Why do we suggest you migrate your players between age groups?

Internally all match events (goals, tries etc) are linked to a player. Fixtures are attached to a team.

By migrating players and keeping consistent team names, it allows us to list player match histories like this:

U15s - 2014-01-01 – Reds vs Blues – Goal
U14s - 2013-01-01 – Reds vs Yellows – Goal
U13s - 2012-01-01 – Reds vs Greens – Goal

As the year changes, we can see the the goal is scored by the same player, but as part of a different team.

If the “rename your teams” method is used, that match history would display like this:

U15s - 2014-01-01 – Reds vs Blues – Goal
U15s - 2013-01-01 – Reds vs Yellows – Goal
U15s - 2012-01-01 – Reds vs Greens – Goal

Suggesting that this player has been a member of the U15s for the past 3 years. It also makes things tricky when a team moves from U17s to Open Age.

There are pros and cons to both methods. We suggest you use the player migration method as we can offer support for this and guarantee it will work with all future functionality. But ultimately it’s up to you as webmasters.
