A new campaign called Save Our Sports has launched a petition urging the UK Government to provide emergency funding to sports, fitness and leisure facilities.
The alliance from the UK’s sport and physical activity sector aims to protect recreational sport, fitness and leisure facilities from permanent closure.
The impact on grassroots sport from Covid-19 has already been widespread and disastrous.
The petition calls for emergency funding in the form of a Sports Recovery Fund to keep community sport from losing clubs, fitness and leisure facilities in the coming months.
At the time of writing, the petition had gained over 17,000 signatures. It has already hit the threshold of 10,000 names which means the Government must respond officially.
If it reaches 100,000, the petition will be considered for debate in the UK Parliament.
